Band Parents:

A copy of the Berkner Band 2010 – 2011 Calendar was given to all band members present at today’s rehearsal.

Please keep a copy with your family calendar.  Please consult the calendar as often as necessary when scheduling appointments, trips, etc…  Attendance is the number one criteria for creating a successful experience for all of our band members.

For your convenience, you can also access the calendar from our website.  http://berknerband.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/BandCalendar2010-11.pdf

Marching Band Update!!

Posted by on August 11, 2010 in Uncategorized with No Comments

Well marching band is well underway and the students and directors are all doing great and have started practicing the competition show this week.  Here are a few announcements:

  1. The Family Picnic on August 26th has a change in menu.  We were able to get Dickeys BBQ to cater our meal for $8.00 per person.  It includes brisket or chicken, 2 sides, a desert and a drink.  The picnic will be in Berkner Park after the Marching band performance on the parking lot.  So if you would like to order BBQ please print the form off of the website, fill it out and put it in a envelope with money into the safe by August 20th.  You will pick up the tickets the night of the picnic at the band hall.  We will not be able to sell tickets after August 20th since we need to order the food ahead of time.  You can bring your own picnic food if you would like but please come join us for the picnic.
  2. The student picnic is this Friday at Spring Park off of Jupiter in Garland.  It starts at 6pm and will be over by 10:30pm.  This is a picnic for the students for a job well done during band camp in all the heat.  The student picnic fee is already been covered so all they need to do is show up.  There is a pool there and life guards will be on duty.  Swim suits need to be worn in the pool.  They will be able to play volleyball or Frisbee if they bring the equipment.  Remember Parking is limited.
  3. Individual picture day will be August 17th I n the band hall.  This is where the students will have their picture taken in their uniform and we use the pictures for button that can be worn by family members and for the student directory.  The times for picture day is posted in the band hall already.  It is as follows:

8-8:30  Sax, bass clarinets

8:30-9  Clarinets

9-9:30  Bassoon, Oboe, French Horns

9:30-10  Flute

10-10:30 Trumpets

10:30-11  Trombones

11-11:30  Euph. /Tubas

11:30-12  Percussion

*Drum Majors and select Trumpets can have their pictures done after they get back from Convocation.

  1. Passbook fundraiser starts this Thursday.  You can pick up the passbooks immediately after band practice on Thursday in the back hallway behind the band hall.
  2. Game day meal order forms is posted on the website now.  Game day meal is a service that BABC helps to provide to the students on game days.  Since they have little time before we leave for the Football game we have volunteers take their order for food earlier in the week and have the food for them in the hallway behind the band hall before marching practice.  This year we have Jimmy Johns (Sub shop) and Chik-Fil-A supplying our game day meals.  You just fill out the form and put it in an envelope with either cash or check in the band hall safe by 4:10 pm on the Tuesday before the football game.  **Reminder if you do write a check please put your students name on the check.    We do need some more volunteers to help with this so if you can help please contact Lori Day at daytunes81@yahoo.com.

Hope to see you at the Family Picnic!

RE: SUMMER BAND!

We’re just a few short weeks away from the start of another exciting marching band season, and with the UIL State Marching Contest off in the distance, it’s critical that we get off to a great start so we have the best chance possible to advance. As you know, ATTENDANCE is the single most important criterion for success in the Berkner Band. Do your very best to be at each and every rehearsal, and to save your absences for truly extenuating circumstances.

AUGUST=BAND!

We’ll never have a better time to get a running start on the fall than we will during August. Once
classes begin, we’ll have SO MANY other things pulling and tugging at us for our attention. It’s
important that we “front load” the marching season with strong, productive rehearsals early on. The complete schedule for the month of August is on the back of this letter (or on the next page if you’re reading this as an email attachment). For the sake of convenience, here are the dates and times for the first week in August:

MONDAY, AUG 2 8:30 am-4:30 pm Work day for ALL leadership team members
TUESDAY, AUG 3 8:30 am-4:30 pm Full band! All new and returning members! (lunch will be from noon-1:30, on your own) 4:45 pm-6:30 pm All Percussion for DL Reunion rehearsal
WEDNESDAY, AUG 4 8:30 am-4:30 pm Full band! All new and returning members! (lunch will be from noon-1:30, on your own)
THURSDAY, AUG 5 8:30 am-4:30 pm Full band! All new and returning members! (lunch will be from noon-1:30, on your own) 4:45 pm-6:30 pm All Percussion for DL Reunion rehearsal
FRIDAY, AUG 6 8:30 am-4:30 pm Full band! All new and returning members! (lunch will be from noon-1:30, on your own)
SATURDAY, AUG 7 8:00 am-4:00 pm BAND REGISTRATION; UNIFORM FITTING 9:00 am-3:00 pm Drum Line Reunion

WE’RE NOT ALONE!
Great bands make great sacrifices! These are long days, just as they are for EVERY OTHER GREAT BAND in the state of Texas! Those who make it to the top are the ones who recognize this and work for it. Be prepared to do YOUR PART EVERY DAY by dressing appropriately (athletic shoes, shorts, t-shirt, cap or visor, sunglasses), having your official MIGHTY RAM BAND WATER BOTTLE (take pride in this!), and by preparing the music you were given back at Kick-Off Camp. We’re a musical organization, and those who are musically prepared and have excellent attendance will be give first consideration for any and all opportunities! You don’t want to miss out later on because you weren’t organized at the beginning!
Enjoy the last few weeks of your vacation, and GET EXCITED ABOUT THE ROAD AHEAD!
(Your staff certainly is!!).
Be safe!!
